Osun 2026: A Defining Moment for Osun People to Bury APC for Good
By Comrade Samakin
Osun State has long held a strategic place in Nigeria’s political landscape. Its electoral outcomes often attract national attention, largely due to the high-stakes nature of its politics and the caliber of actors involved. As the 2026 governorship election approaches, Osun once again stands at a historic crossroads; a chance to consolidate progress or risk a return to regressive leadership.
At present, no opposition figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged with the credibility or political strength to challenge the immense popularity of Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. His political trajectory has been one of consistent victories, beginning with the 2017 Osun West Senatorial by-election. Even in 2018, Governor Adeleke won the governorship election, but APC used abracadabra to overturned the process in favor of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola. However, justice prevailed in 2022, when Adeleke returned with a resounding victory, defeating the incumbent with a margin of over 28,000 votes, a testament to his widespread grassroots support.
Since taking office, Governor Adeleke has proven himself to be a people-centered leader. Under his administration, Osun State has witnessed commendable strides in critical sectors such as education, agriculture, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and healthcare. His governance model prioritizes inclusiveness, transparency, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of Osun residents.
Interestingly, while the APC continues to grapple with internal disarray and an evident lack of direction, Governor Adeleke’s achievements are galvanizing more support. Traditionally neutral bloc in Osun politics have openly declared their support for the Governor’s re-election. For the first time in Osun’s history, government workers under various unions have boldly endorsed a sitting IMOLE for a second term, citing his responsive leadership and dedication to workers’ welfare. Various interest and pressure groups across the state have also thrown their weight behind his candidacy.
The APC, on the other hand, seems to have lost steam. Even within their ranks, there appears to be a silent admission that former Governor Oyetola lacks the momentum to return to power. The party is reportedly scouting for a new face, but Osun people are politically enlightened and not easily swayed by rebranding efforts. The hardship, maladministration, and disconnection from the people that characterized the APC years still lingering in people's memory.
The 2026 governorship election is not just another poll; it is an opportunity for Osun citizens to reaffirm their commitment to progress, good governance, and people-oriented leadership. It is a chance to finally bury the APC’s influence in Osun politics and send a clear message that the state will not tolerate a return to the dark days of poor governance.
Governor Ademola Adeleke has set Osun on a path of transformation. His passion for service and his results speak for themselves. As 2026 approaches, the people of Osun are not just waiting to vote; they are preparing to make history once again. They know where they have been, they know where they are headed, and they are ready to continue the journey with a leader who listens, delivers, and inspires.
Osun will decide. Osun will choose the best. And in 2026, Osun will once again choose Governor Ademola Adeleke

Osun Takes the Lead on Climate Action: Governor Adeleke Hosts Landmark Renewable Energy Workshop in Ede
By Great-Emperor Ola
Ede, one of Osun State’s historic towns, became the center of Nigeria’s green conversation on April 28 and 29, 2025, as it welcomed participants from across the country and beyond for a high-level climate change and renewable energy workshop. The event, part of the Africa Infrastructure Climate Change and Investment Summit (AICIS) 2025 Engagement Series, focused on the theme: “Climate Change Project Development and Financing.”
The workshop was hosted by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in collaboration with the Osun State Government - through the Office of the Global Consultant and Technical Team Lead on Climate Change and Renewable Energy and Africa Business Ventures and Investment Group (ABVIG).
For two days, Ede’s Western Sun Hotel buzzed with energy and ideas, as environmental experts, policy leaders, researchers, and development professionals gathered to share knowledge, build partnerships, and shape practical solutions for Africa’s climate future.
Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, who served as the Chief Host, welcomed guests with warmth and a strong sense of purpose. In his address, he reaffirmed his administration’s deep commitment to climate resilience, renewable energy, and sustainable development.
“Our actions today determine the health of our tomorrow,” Governor Adeleke said. “Osun State is not sitting on the fence - we are leading from the front in the global fight against climate change.”
True to his word, the Governor has consistently prioritized green policies, earning praise across the country for his forward-looking leadership. Hosting this workshop added another milestone to his administration’s growing reputation for progressive, people-focused governance.
Participants engaged in in-depth sessions covering everything from how to turn waste into economic value, to funding clean energy projects, promoting climate-smart agriculture, and building public-private partnerships. A few standout presentations included:
• “How to Develop Bankable Climate Projects” by Professor Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe, Global Consultant and Technical Team Lead to the Osun State Government. • “Transforming Waste to Wealth: The Lagos Experience” by Dr. Gbolahan Yusuf. • “Mobilizing Climate Finance through PPP” and other interactive sessions led by experts like Prof. Kafeelah Yusuf, Dr. Raimot Akanmu, and Engr. Dr. Ademola Aderinto.
The workshop wasn’t just about ideas—it was about action. Attendees worked on real-world climate project concepts and explored funding pathways, leaving with practical tools to take back to their communities.
A final communique was issued at the close of the event, capturing key takeaways and proposed next steps for building a stronger, climate-ready Nigeria.
For Governor Adeleke, the workshop was more than just an event - it was a statement. Osun is ready, willing, and able to lead Nigeria’s transition to a greener future. And under his watch, the State of the Living Spring is not just embracing sustainability - it’s setting the pace.
As the old saying goes, a stitch in time saves nine. In Osun, those stitches are being sewn with care, foresight, and determination - for a future that generations to come can be proud of.

The Politics of Defection: A Betrayal of Trust and an Affront to Democratic Loyalty
The Politics of Defection: A Betrayal of Trust and an Affront to Democratic Loyalty
By Comrade Samakin Abdul-Jeleel Abiodun
Politics in Nigeria is becoming increasingly irritating, not because of the system itself, but because of the character of those who occupy positions of leadership. We are witnessing an unsettling trend: politicians who rise through the ranks and reap immense benefits from a political party suddenly abandoning that same party for personal interest. The recent defection of Hon. Busayo Wole Oke, a long-standing member of the House of Representatives, is a glaring example of this betrayal of public trust and party loyalty.
For nearly two decades, Hon. Wole Oke has enjoyed the unflinching support and resources of the People Democratic Party (PDP). The party provided the platform upon which he built his political relevance, repeatedly electing and re-electing him into the National Assembly. Yet, despite this, he chose to defect from the PDP; the very party that nurtured his political journey. And he did so with unweighted, unconvincing excuses, without regard for the feelings of party members who have stood with him through thick and thin.
This act is not only disappointing; it is politically irresponsible. Defection, when done without just cause, is nothing short of betrayal. It reflects the deep rot in our political culture, where personal ambition is elevated above party ideology, loyalty, and the collective good of constituents.
Some defend political defection as a constitutional right—and rightly so. But constitutional permissibility is not the same as moral justification. When a politician benefits consistently from a party for nearly 20 years, only to turn his back on it once it no longer serves his ambition, the public must call it what it is: 'opportunism and political ingratitude'.
Hon. Wole Oke’s exit from the PDP is not a mark of courage or ideological awakening, it is a symptom of the self-centered, unprincipled politics that continues to hold Nigeria’s democracy hostage. Leaders like him set a dangerous precedent and demoralize young people who still believe in the sanctity of political loyalty and service.
We must no longer romanticize political survival at all costs. It is time we begin to differentiate between politicians who serve and those who exploit. The youth of this country must be politically aware, strategically discerning, and brave enough to reject leaders who place their personal ambitions above the interest of the people. Any leader who jumps from one party to another for selfish reasons cannot be trusted with our future.
Hon. Wole Oke's defection should not be swept under the carpet. It should be condemned as a betrayal of both the PDP and the loyal followers who believed in him. Such acts weaken our democracy, deepen voter apathy, and reinforce the perception that politics is a dirty game. But let it be clear, politics is not dirty; it is the decisions of certain politicians that make it so.
As young Nigerians, we must learn to say enough is enough. We must reject politicians who are not ideologically grounded or morally consistent. Leaders who lack loyalty will betray us tomorrow. Let us not be blind followers. Let us ask hard questions, and when leaders fail to provide convincing answers, we must withdraw our support.
Hon. Wole Oke may have made his choice, but the people also have a choice to hold him accountable at the ballot box and in public discourse. Our democracy must be defended not just by laws, but by the will and wisdom of the people.
Let us, as youths and as citizens, protect our future by supporting principled leadership and rejecting political prostitution. The survival of our democracy depends on it.

Defection Rumor: Hon Ajayi Disassociates Himself From Oluwole Oke, Pledges Support For Adeleke
The recent claims made by Hon Oluwole Oke regarding defection propaganda, have left many of people in Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration surprised and disappointed.
In a press statement signed by himself, Hon Gbenga Ajayi on tuesday 6th May, 2025 in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
According to the statement, Hon Gbenga Ajayi senior special assistant to Governor Nurudeem Ademola Adeleke on Community social development agency, CSDA, said as one of the Governor's appointees, he feels compelled to set the record straight and respond to these baseless allegations and political propaganda.
As someone who has worked closely with Governor Adeleke, I can confidently say that his leadership is built on merit, integrity, and a deep commitment to the people of Osun State. The Governor's vision for our state is clear, and his administration's achievements speak for themselves, he said.
Hon Oke's claims, on the other hand, are nothing but a desperate attempt to cling to relevance. His actions and behavior have been a clear indication that he is out of touch with the values and principles of our great party, PDP. It is time for the PDP to take a closer look at Oke's actions as his behavior is an embarrassment to the party, stated
One wonders if Hon Oke has considered the consequences of his actions. His claims are not only unfounded but also have the potential to damage the reputation of our party and the Governor's administration. As public officials, we have a responsibility to uphold the trust and confidence of the electorate. Oke's behavior falls woefully short of this standard.
In contrast, Governor Adeleke's administration remains committed to serving the people of Osun State with integrity and dedication. We will continue to work tirelessly to deliver on our promises and build a brighter future for our state.
To Hon Oke, I say this: it's time to reflect on your actions and consider the impact they may have on your political career. Your claims may spell the end of your relevance in Osun State politics if you're not careful.
The statement reads; i want to reiterate my commitment, support and loyalty to Governor Adeleke's administration and our collective mission to build a better Osun State, said Hon Gbenga Ajayi.
We will not be swayed by baseless allegations and petty politics. Instead, we will continue to focus on delivering results and serving the people of Osun State with integrity and dedication, he said
