A recent report revealed that Mr. Iyanda Alowonle was shot by the Osun State Anti-Kidnapping Unit while allegedly attempting to evade arrest. This incident resulted in his hospitalization at the Osun State Teaching Hospital.
While the Nigerian Police Force is empowered to arrest and prosecute offenders, there have been countless cases of these powers being abused by officers. Although the law permits the use of lethal force when a suspect resists arrest or attempts to escape, it’s crucial to emphasize that the *Right to Life*, enshrined in Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), is fundamental. The constitution states that no one should be deprived of life intentionally unless under a court-ordered execution for a criminal offense.
Questions surrounding Alowonle’s arrest and the gunshot injuries he sustained demand answers. A video shared on social media by one Prince Adesina shows Alowonle in handcuffs, visibly frightened and subdued, being interrogated in pidgin English by the police, with some officers translating it to Yoruba. How could a restrained and seemingly defenseless individual attempt to escape?
The claim that Alowonle was shot during a rescue attempt by his associates raises more questions than it answers. Why were there no reports of injuries or fatalities among the alleged rescuers? Why is the only injury recorded is that of Alowonle, who was already in police custody? It appears implausible that a "rescue attempt" would result in only the suspect being harmed while leaving the officers and alleged attackers unharmed.
Further questions emerge:
1. Why did the officers fail to use non-lethal means to subdue Alowonle, especially as he was already in handcuffs?
2. Could it be that the alleged rescue attempt was fabricated to justify the reckless shooting?
3. How many more citizens have suffered similar fates at the hands of this unit without public attention?
4. Why has Officer Moses not been held accountable for his history of alleged misconduct?
5. If this is how suspects are treated under police custody, how can the public trust the Force to uphold justice?
This incident is not an isolated one. Officer Moses, who led the operation, has a history of alleged misconduct and abuse of power. Instead of focusing on his mandate to combat kidnappers, he has been accused of using state resources to terrorize citizens. For instance, Moses reportedly orchestrated the frequent arrests of Hon. Adabanija Kamorudeen, a known loyalist of former governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Such actions undermine the ethical standards of policing and tarnish the image of the Nigerian Police Force. While there are commendable officers within the Force, individuals like Moses jeopardize public trust.
The Inspector General of Police must urgently intervene to investigate Officer Moses and ensure accountability for this alleged abuse of power. It is imperative for the integrity of the Force and the protection of citizens’ rights.

Osun Govt Decries Attempted Murder by Police of Park Management Chairman,
NEWS RELEASE
●Seeks Arrest, Transfer & Prosecution of Moses, Head of Anti-Kidnapping Squad
OSOGBO- 19/11/2024 - Osunstate.gov.ng
Osun State Government has raised alarm over the shooting to near death in police custody of the Chairman of Osun Transport Management System, Comrade Iyanda Alowonle over a domestic matter.
Alowonle is presently on life support at the Intensive Care Unit of the Osun State Teaching Hospital after a gunshot wound in the abdomen while in the custody of the police at Osogbo.
Video clips of Alowonle in handcuffs and under interrogation circulating in the media space dispelled any excuse that the park chairman was trying to escape. The fact that he was shot in the abdomen as video from his hospital bed confirmed proved that he was shot at close range with intent to eliminate him.
Interactions between the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the State Governor, Mr Samuel Ojo and the Head of Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Moses Lohor provided direct proof that the incident was premeditated to murder Mr Alowonle.
We also note that the issue that generated the purported arrest was a civil matter, not criminally related to have warranted the involvement of Mr Moses Lohor, the head of the Anti-Kidnapping squad except for the repeat of a recent pattern of police harassment of officials of the state government on partisan motivation.
The programmed attempted murder of Mr Alowonle is just one in the series of shootings and attacks on officials of the state by the head of anti-kidnapping squad who regularly acted with impunity and who has not hidden his vow to eliminate supporters of the state government.
As we summoned several meetings to calm frayed nerves today, we struggled hard to stop reprisal attacks against police establishments across the state due to what the public now see as police partisan conduct in breach of the law.
As we regret a situation in which law enforcers are becoming threat to peace and stability of the state, the state government therefore demands the Inspector General of Police and the National Security Adviser to take judicious note of the increasing breach of state peace by the hostile conduct of some police officers who now shot at innocent civilians and suspects at will.
“We call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Mr Moses Lohor, the Head of the Anti- Kidnapping Squad for his wilful act of attempted murder.
“We demand police impartiality and commitment to rule of law without fixation on partisan considerations; “We also call the attention of the National Security Adviser to the increasing threat to peace in Osun state amidst threat to unleash violence ahead of 2026 election “We call on the Inspector General of Police to rise to the occasion and abandon any signal that may portray him as acting against Osun peace and stability”, the statement concluded. Oyetola-led Blue Economy Ministry Spends Over N600Million On Estacodes, Air Tickets, Refreshments In 4 Months, Monies Paid Into Private Accounts
November 18, 2024
NEWS REPORTS
Led by Gboyega Oyetola, the ministry paid out hundreds of millions of naira into private accounts for various expenses, including air tickets, hall rentals, refreshments, and honorariums, between July 26, 2024, and October 23, 2024.
SaharaReporters also noticed significant spending on travel allowances and honorariums, despite President Bola Tinubu's administration vowing to reduce governance costs.
Specifically, on July 26, 2024, a hefty sum of N7.3 million was paid into Olufemi Michael Oloruntola's account. It was described as 40% estacode supplementation for study tour to the Royal Kingdom of Morocco.
Michael Oloruntola, the Secretary General of Nigeria's Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, received N76 million between July 26 and October 23, primarily for travel expenses, allowances, and estacodes, including a 40% estacode supplementation for a study tour to Morocco.
Estacode allowance is a travel allowance granted to public officers for international travel, with rates varying by rank.
Another sum of N10.4 million was paid into the account of Sanya Sholabami Abosede. It was described as payment for 40% supplementation for a study tour to the Royal Kingdom of Morocco and was made on July 26, 2024.
Sanya received N76.4 million between July 26 and October 23, 2024 in her personal account.
The Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy's recent payment of millions for estacode follows a trip to Morocco that took place between July 29 and August 3. This trip likely involved high-ranking officials, considering the substantial estacode allowance paid out.
In Nigeria, estacode rates vary by position, with ministers reportedly receiving $900 per night and the Chief Justice of Nigeria getting $2,000.
On August 13, the ministry paid N8.4 million for non-personal advance granted for renting hall, refreshment, honorarium and others. The money was paid into the account of one Nwoko Vincent.
Also, Abba Goni Yarema received N186.5 million in his personal account as payment for ‘out of pocket expenses,’ duty tour allowance, renting of hall and refreshments.
The review shows that between August 13 and October 23, 2024, Hafeez Babatunde Bombata, who is the Director of Marine Safety and Security, at the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, received N43 million in his personal account.
The money was meant for estacodes and air tickets for international maritime organization meetings in London and estacode and allowance for undertaking capacity development and study tour of Port reception facilities in Togo and Ghana.
The reviews shows that a sum of N662 million tracked as expenses of the marine and blue economy ministry was for air ticket, refreshment, ‘out of pocket’ expenses, rent and others.
This is despite the provision of Chapter 7, Section 713 of Nigeria's Financial Regulations 2009 which states that “Personal money shall in no circumstances be paid into a government bank account, nor shall any public money be paid into a private account.”

Osun 2026: Dr Ganduje Suffers from Verbal Diarrhea, Plots to Undermine Mr President in the South West
NEWS RELEASE
OSOGBO- 18/11/2024- Osunstate.gov.ng
The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr Umar Ganduje suffers from verbal diarrhea and swollen ego with an agenda to destabilize the South West zone and create a crisis for Mr President at the home front.
Dr Ganduje is clearly unhappy with the peace and united front behind Mr President from the South West zone and has now launched vicious attacks to ignite regional political battles to weaken the President ahead of 2027.
Reacting to the vow by Dr Umar Ganduje to hijack Osun in 2026, Spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed said the anti-democratic utterances of the APC leader contrast sharply with the democratic credentials of President Bola Ahmed Tinibu, wondering why the APC leader speaks like an amateur dictator without respect for history.
As a well read politician, one would have expected Dr Ganduje to know that electoral contests depend mostly on local indexes and factors and that what obtains in Edo and Ondo are surely different from political facts on ground in Osun state.
Local permutations, grievances and interests dictate how people vote rather than superimposed force, the Spokesperson noted, citing the failure of the APC leader to win Kano state governorship race for his party.
In Kano, the local peculiarities enforced the subsisting victory of the Kwankwasiyya group which beat the Ganduje caucus which was in office for eight years.
If Ganduje failed in his own state because internal forces rejected his brand of politics, why is he thinking Osun factors which enthroned Governor Adeleke would not resist any attempt to disrespect the will of Osun people in 2026?
According to the Spokesperson, Osun state is the cradle of Yoruba people where political freedom is cherished and where resistance to electoral fraud is a strong tradition, describing Dr Ganduje as “a threat to democracy and an insider enemy of President Tinubu.
“If Dr Ganduje truly loves Mr President, why is he pushing to destabilize the president's home zone through open threats to violate electoral law and deny the electorate their rights to vote and be voted for? By threatening to hijack opposition states, the APC leader is undermining the general consensus among Yoruba people which accept Mr President as their own irrespective of political differences.
“If however the statement of the APC leader is borne out of ignorance, he is invited to study Osun politics to get better informed of the dynamics of this state's politics and to appreciate that what works in Edo and Ondo cannot play out here for several reasons.
“In Osun state, the ruling party, the PDP is daily receiving thousands of decampees from opposition parties. The PDP in Osun is already a strong mass movement which cannot be overrun by a party chairman who failed to deliver his own state and who does not have the mandate of Mr President to ignite conflict in the South West zone.
“The PDP in Osun state is too deeply planted to be threatened or suppressed by any electoral robber and Governor Adeleke remains an extraordinarily popular leader whose mandate now or in 2026 can not be hijacked by anti- democratic forces’, the Spokesperson noted.

COP29: Governor Adeleke Tasks World Leaders on Climate Action, Opens up on Osun Climate Progress
NEWS RELEASE
OSOGBO - 17/11/2024 - Osunstate.gov.ng
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has called on world leaders to recommit to immediate action to stem the mounting negative consequences of climate change, listing several steps the subnational state of Osun has taken on the subject.
Addressing COP29 side event in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Governor represented by the state's consultant on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, Prof Chinwe Obuaku recalled the various technical reports from several credible agencies which pointed to a heightening negative impact of climate change, noting that the time is now for remediation, adaptation and resilience actions to save the planet.
Governor Adeleke extended hands of collaboration to world leaders as he noted that “the challenges of climate change are global while our solutions can be local, scalable, and impactful.
“Let us continue to share knowledge, forge partnerships, and invest in sustainable futures for all. Together, we can create a world where art, innovation, and environmental stewardship thrive side by side—a world where waste becomes wealth and resilience becomes a shared legacy”, the Governor canvassed.
The Governor spoke further at the event: “In Osun State, we are on a transformative journey toward climate resilience, sustainability, and economic empowerment. Aligned with the thematic areas of COP29, our efforts focus on adaptation, mitigation, circular economy, and inclusive development:
“Adaptation: Through our Climate Action Plan (CAP), we are equipping all sectors with the tools to assess emissions and vulnerabilities. Focal desk officers are tracking greenhouse gas data across agriculture, water, infrastructure, and health, ensuring targeted and actionable strategies;
“Circular Economy: Our state is pioneering waste-to-wealth initiatives by engaging both formal and informal players. Through waste characterization studies and upcoming recycling hubs, we are creating economic opportunities while protecting the environment;
“Nature-Based Solutions: We are reclaiming degraded lands, such as the Onibueja dump site, where reforestation and creative reuse of waste are transforming challenges into opportunities. Our Ago-Owu Forest project further demonstrates our commitment to ecosystem restoration;
“Renewable Energy Transition: Solar mini-grids, solar farms, solar powered boreholes, solar street lights, clean cooking stoves, and partnerships with international stakeholders are ensuring a just and inclusive clean energy future;
“Inclusive Development: By mobilizing women, youths, and local communities, we are creating a robust grassroots movement for climate action”, the Governor noted.
He commended Mr. Dotun Popoola’s remarkable exhibition, Reclaimed Beauty, exemplified the spirit of innovation and resilience that drives Osun State.
“His sculptures—crafted from recycled metal and discarded materials from our dumpsites—tell the story of turning waste into wonder, and challenges into opportunities. His work aligns seamlessly with our circular economy goals, emphasizing sustainability and cultural heritage.
“I commend the Heydar Aliyev Center for hosting this extraordinary event. It showcases the intersection of art, environmental stewardship, and economic empowerment—a vision we deeply embrace in Osun State” , the Governor concluded.

TRIBUTE FOR LIEUTENANT GENERAL TAOREED ABIODUN LAGBAJA BY GOVERNOR ADEMOLA ADELEKE
This is a painful moment for me as I never imagined I would be standing here to acknowledge the fact that my good brother, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, is truly gone. Since last Wednesday when his demise was announced, the whole of Osun has been deeply hurt because the passing of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja is too colossal for us as a people to bear.
I remember I had the pleasure of meeting many people from Ilobu during our several campaign tours to the ancient town, and the life-changing impact Lt. Gen. Lagbaja had on them is unquantifiable. And I came to have a feel of the incredible man that Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was, shortly after he assumed the prestigious office of Chief of Army Staff.
A kind, humble and generous to a fault. Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was the clearest indication that there is a reward in hardwork. Coming from a humble background, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja braved all odds, enduring challenging moments to make a mark. Lt. Gen. Lagbaja joined the Nigerian Army to make sure that many of us can sleep well at night, knowing that someone is risking his life to keep us safe.
On the road to the top, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja bled on the field to secure Nigerians, and at no time did he waver in his abiding faith in Nigeria. His life was a classical example of what devotion to one's country should be like and a perfect guide for younger generations to follow.
I am particularly touched by the painful exit of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja not just because he is one of our shining stars in Osun state, but for his effort at peace-building. At the heat of a communal crisis in Osun state last year, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was pivotal to resolving the crisis and restoring peace. No matter when I call him, he is always available and swiftly provides any support that will cause peace.
You know, as Governor, I was always excited by the incredible grace that Lt. Gen. Lagbaja serves for Osun people. As the Chief of Army Staff, he honours our dear state beyond what words can say, especially with the remarkable successes against insecurity that the Army recorded under his guidance. This is one more reason why our heart, from Osun state, is deeply heavy, because we lost one of our accomplished citizens.
Looking at him and what he accomplished, we would be reminded that it falls upon each of us to give hope to the hopeless and involve ourselves in what will foster peace and stability. Lt. Gen. Lagbaja lived a life of service, and more, put himself on the line to ensure the survival of all. And it now falls on us to sustain his legacy of contributions, so that young people in Osun and beyond, might leverage on it to make even more contributions to the state and Nigeria.
May God bless the memory of our beloved Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, granting him eternal rest in the great beyond. It is also my prayer that God comforts his family, associates and communities he left behind.
Adieu Lt. Gen. Lagbaja

APC is busy chasing shadows– Osun PDP
PRESS RELEASE
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its immoral act of using the unfortunate loss of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the late Chief of Army Staff, to play its usual irresponsible politics, saying the party has become so rudderless that it now label official support for a distinguished Osun professional by Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Ooni of Ife a misnomer.
The PDP in a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, on Monday, said the Osun APC criticism of Governor Ademola Adeleke is lame and unreasonable, noting it is utterly despicable that a main opposition party in the state will make the death of an illustrious son an avenue to launder its badly deflated image among the public in the desperate pursuit for power.
Hon. Bisi affirmed the great pain of the Adeleke-led PDP Government in the state over the loss of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, which informed the decision of Governor Adeleke to declare three-day mourning period and travel to Abuja to visit the deceased family, calling on Osun APC to show some responsibility by recognising the huge loss that the demise of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja reflects not just for Osun state but the entire country.
"It is now clear to everyone in Osun and beyond that the Osun APC has lost it entirely to its desperation for power. Turning the unfortunate loss of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja to its politics is a low and as a party, we are shocked beyond marrow to see the Osun APC sunk into this level of absurdity," Hon. Bisi noted in a statement.
"Lt. Gen. Lagbaja is a shining star for Osun and losing him that sudden is devastating, and we never hoped that Osun APC will turned this shameless to contemplate using the pains of the people, especially family of the late military chief, to revive its fading political fortunes.
"Contrary to the narrative of the APC, Governor Adeleke attended an event to support a successful young lawyer from the state, Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, opening a law office in Abuja on Thursday. The event had top Nigerians, including the Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Enitan, Ojaja II, in attendance.
"Governor Adeleke visited the late Lagbaja family on Friday and returned home as against the lies of the Osun APC that he went on dancing. What the Osun APC stand to gain from fabricating lies, which not only disrespect the family of Lt. Lagbaja who are still reeling the lose of their beloved son, but also attempt to drag the respected stool of Ooni of Ife to the mud.
"We want to caution the Osun APC to note that politics should not take consideration over life because that is what they just did. While the Osun APC may not mourn the demise of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, it should at least pretend, and not insult the collective intelligence of the people with the odious criticism."

We're making Concerted Efforts to Return Osun to its Top Commercial, Industrial Status - Governor Adeleke
Osun State Governor, Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has disclosed that his administration has been making concerted efforts in returning the state to its top commercial and industrial status by the developmental strides which are strategic in boosting industrialization and attracting investments to the State.
The Governor, represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, said this on Friday at the Osun State Special Day during the 2024 Lagos international Trade Fair, held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos State.
The year's theme is "Connecting Businesses, Creating Value" which focused on sectors such as Technology, Manufacturing, Agriculture and Services.
While speaking, Rev. Jenyo said, the South West region must make efforts to tap into the vast opportunities that abound in various sectors such as Tourism, ICT, Agriculture, Automobile Production, Assembling, Components and Services, Technology, Industrial and Business Machinery, Chemicals, Agro-Processing, Mining, Gemstones Mining, Textile and Leather , among others.
He added that South West region has a large productive population and market for movement of goods and services in the region.
According to the Commissioner, "we must therefore use our resources to build our industrial potentials. One of the important objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) is to create a single market that will help facilitate the free movement of persons, goods, services and investments. If we implement our policies well and timely, our manufacturing and industrial sector will have an increased output and create millions of jobs in the region. It is also very important that effective actions are taken to adequately get MSMEs ready to leverage the trade opportunities in African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) within the South West region".
He said Osun State, being a Commercial and Industrial Hub in the South West should not be left behind in attracting investments in the commercial and industrial sectors as it is endowed with abundant natural and agricultural resources that are yet to be fully harnessed.
"The Adeleke led Government also conducted an Industrial Investment Summit from 10th to 14th September 2024, which accommodated various exhibitors from within and outside Osun State in all sectors of the economy, to promote production and use of Made-in-Osun and Nigeria Products to improve the economy of our dear State and nation, as Osun is now recognized as one of the most Investment-friendly States in Nigeria", he said.
He noted that the State Government wants to accelerate the pace of industrialization with a view to changing the narrative of being a Civil Service State to a fully industrialised State, hence, the revitalization of the Free Trade Zone which is planned to provide over 1,000,000 direct and indirect jobs for the people. Establishment of Markets with modern facilities, Establishment of Farm Produce Aggregation Centres with Cold and Dry Storage Facilities and Processing Units, Encouragement of Youths to key into Skills Upgrade and Entrepreneurship Development Training Programmes and Revival of moribund Industries among others.
Rev. Jenyo therefore stressed that Osun State is open for business and Investments from across the globe. "Osun state, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is always ready to support investments by providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive".
Gabriel Idahosa, President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) noted that Osun had witnessed accelerated and sustained development in infrastructure, amenities, creation of critical public goods, and implementation of ease of doing business reforms.

Osun Government Debunks Fake News on Public Expenditure, Says Financial Discipline its Watchword
NEWS RELEASE
OSOBO -09/11/2024 - Osunstate.gov.ng
The Osun State Government has debunked repeated fake news from the opposition operatives and an online platform which accused the government of recklessness in public expenditure, describing such false news as misrepresentation of facts to be corrected by direct fact checking.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the State Government fingered such false reports with headlines as Adeleke blew N38bn in 21 months; splashed N8bn on vehicles in 2024; zero funding for gratuity, pension arrears; N38 billion spent on Governor's Office; N8.09 billion on vehicle purchase; 500 million plus on entertainment among others.
Before puncturing the fake news, let me reiterate that the Osun State Government took a significant step towards fiscal accountability and transparency by making its budget implementation report accessible to the public on its official website as part of efforts to promote sustainability and Open Governance.
“The public release of the document is a clear confirmation that the government has nothing to hide and that all details provided in terms of expenditure are public spirited with high sense financial prudence and discipline.
On the allegation of huge expenses on vehicle purchase, the public is first reminded of how the Oyetola team carted away all government vehicles in 2022, making it imperative for the government to purchase vehicles for statewide operations.
This N8 billion figure represents the cumulative procurement of vehicles by the Bureau of General Services for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to replace those carted away by the previous administration whose worth was ₦4,384,838,696.39 as at then and which ordinarily would have costed ₦18,488,312,413.88 to replace given the current value of the naira.
On pension and gratuity arrears, the current administration inherited a huge sum of ₦35bn pension and gratuity arrears from the previous administration and within just two years, the Adeleke Administration had cleared four years’ worth of ₦16.2bn pension and gratuity arrears spanning 2017 to 2020.
The public is invited to note that the immediate past administration ruled between 2019 and 2022 and the total pension paid within the period was N11b plus compared to Adeleke's N16 billion plus under two years.
On expenditure in Governor's office, a review of expenditure within Governor's office between 2019 to 2022 when Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola governed the state showed a humongous amount running into several billions of naira.
While Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola spent ₦9,615,519,767.34 between 20I9 to 2020 when the average exchange rate was about ₦300 per Dollar, the current government expended the sum of 26,185,980,555.14 from 2022 to date, when the average exchange rate was ₦1,300 per Dollar, as capital and overhead expenditure in the Governor's office.
It is however noteworthy to add that Office ofthe Governor comprises several agencies and units including the Governor's personal office as an infinitesimal portion. It is disingenuous to put legitimate expenditure of statutory agencies and units on the head of the governor.
On the issue of security votes , we insist that the state governor is not drawing any security vote but the state government spent money on security services and operations and emergencies in the state which are processed within the compass of due process and financial regulations.
On a report by an online news medium that Osun state spent over Five Hundred Million Naira on entertainment, we educate the medium that Osun Government in the last one year or so has hosted several high profile national events bordering on beneficial policy meetings, hosting of ministers, Governors and even top state officials from the Presidency.
The medium is invited to note that hosting states spent fund on transportation, accommodation and event organisation, all which were conducted under shoestring budget and within the context of hyper inflation plaguing the country.
The state benefited immensely as several developmental projects are attracted into the state while Osun state is gradually assuming the position of event hub of the South West, boosting the agenda of the administration on the cultural, creative and tourism industry.
We notice deliberate endeavour of the opposition to dent the image of the current government by misinterpreting, misrepresenting and fabricating financial conjectures especially after it has become overwhelmed by current good governance delivery. It is however gratifying to note that Osun people understand the gimmick of the unelectable opposition and are not falling for surveyors of fake news who failed miserably when they had opportunities to govern the state.
The public is aware through fact check that the increment in federal allocation to Osun state are being channeled to workers' welfare, infrastructure upgrade, social sector renewal, small business financial supports as well as phased and liquidation of billions of naira in pension and salary debt inherited from the former administration.
We urge the public to ignore agents of fake news and to further fact check the preceding submissions from the state government to reaffirm that the current administration has shown exceptional prudence in resource management, outperforming its predecessor despite today's challenging global economic landscape.

Legacy of Knowledge, Future of Prosperity: Imole's Education Agenda for Osun State
By Femi Oluwasanmi
"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." —Malcolm X
This statement underscores the necessity of education as a fundamental component of a responsible and responsive government. The previous administration's failure to acknowledge this truth has significantly contributed to the decline of educational standards in Osun State.
Before Senator Ademola Adeleke assumed office as Governor of Osun State, reports of inadequate salaries, promotions without corresponding remuneration, and deteriorating school facilities created a stifling atmosphere for both students and educators. However, this situation has changed under the governor's visionary leadership.
Through innovative initiatives, the governor has revitalized the struggling education sector by increasing funding for state-owned universities and providing permanent employment status to university staff who had been on temporary contracts for years.
To foster a conducive learning environment, the governor has initiated the rebranding and upgrading of infrastructure in state-owned universities, equipping them with world-class facilities. Additionally, he is accelerating the construction of new classrooms and renovating the dilapidated buildings left by the previous administration in primary and secondary schools throughout the state.
To address the gap left by the previous administration's failure to hire qualified personnel for the education system, the people-friendly administration led by the Imole of Ile Adulawo is in the process of recruiting over five thousand teachers for primary and secondary schools.
Furthermore, despite the economic challenges posed by the APC-led federal government, the governor has proven himself to be a man of the people by distributing learning materials to students and maintaining the school feeding program for public school students across the state. This remarkable display of commitment to education highlights the governor's dedication to fostering a brighter future for the people of Osun State. The public is convinced of the Governor's commitment to education development of the state and no amount of misrepresentation will distort the reality of great happenings within the Osun education sector under Governor Adeleke. ●Hon. WHY WE ARE QUITTING APC IN THOUSANDS - LEADERS OF OSUN APC DECAMPEES
PRESS STATEMENT
Leaders of former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have explained why they defected to the APC, declaring that more decampees are on the way.
In a statement signed by 40 leaders among those who decamped from all the 30 local governments and Area office, the group described their defection as “real, authentic, widespread and in thousands, not hundreds.
“We decide to issue this statement following controversy generated by a survey report from the Democracy Polling Agency which affirmed that 45 percent of Oyetola faction of the APC have defected to the PDP.
“We want to confirm that many of us were interviewed by the researchers who asked several questions from us. Many of us across the local governments were interviewed. When we saw the report, we knew it reflected our position.
“We left APC because the party has become unfocused, unpopular, anti-people, vendetta driven and unelectable. We left the APC because we want to be part of good things happening in our state. We are glad Governor Ademola Adeleke has turned around the fortunes of Osun state for the better.
“We don't want to be part of the failure of the past. Osun's government failed in the past under APC and we now have a government of PDP that is doing the bidding and aspirations of the people. We decided to be part of the success story.
“We also want to clarify that we have no problem with old members we met on the ground in the PDP. They are wonderful host and we are joining hands to build a better state. As new members, our goal is to ensure the re-election of Mr Governor. We want the good work to continue.
“To the APC, we are real leaders from across the local governments who left your party for PDP. We put our names on this statement so the public can know we are real. “We can assert that more than 50 percent of Ileri Oluwa APC have left for PDP. More APC members are joining the APC. It is a continuous exercise”, the statement concluded.

How deep is the Osun APC membership plunge?
How deep is the Osun APC membership plunge?
By Adebisi Ifamakinde
I was surfing the internet recently when I came across a finding that touched on the significant slump in the membership of the main opposition in Osun state, the All Progressives Congress (APC). The finding, which was the culmination a survey conducted by the Democracy Polling Agency (DPA), a non-governmental organization affiliated to a top university in Nigeria, indicating that the Osun APC has lost at least 45 percent of members in recent time.
That is staggering, and out of curiosity, I look deeper to understand the finding more. The interesting thing in the finding was that the 45 percent membership slump attributed to the Osun APC was actually from the Ileri-Oluwa tendency of the party. For any observer of things in the Osun APC in recent time will understand that the party is sectionalized along the Omuluabi and Ileri-Oluwa tendency.
While Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, a former Governor in Osun state, leads the Omoluabi tendency of the Osun APC, the Ileri-Oluwa faction goes to the current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola. In the finding by the DPA, the Omoluabi tendency has about 45 percent of the old APC members in Osun, while the Ileri-Oluwa faction controls less than the remaining 60 percent.
It was from this 60 percent membership hold by the Ileri-Oluwa tendency, the DPA noted in its finding, that no fewer than 45 percent members had left. From the surface, this will seem impossible, but following events in recent times, provide more clarity on the finding by the DPA. Lately, APC members in Osun are leaving in droves to the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the defection has become so rampant that one may easily lost count.
Starting from August to this moment, APC members across the state have moved to the PDP. From Ikire to Iwo, Gbongan to Ila, Ife to Osogbo, Ede to Modakeke, APC members in Osun seemingly no longer find the platform appealing to further their political participation as they pitch tent elsewhere, most especially the PDP.
According to the DPA survey, the APC has seen defection of members in 27 local governments in the state within the spate of three months. But a deeper look, scouring the pages of social media for news and pictures of defection, will show that the defection from the APC may have crossed all the 30 local governments, including the area office. That is huge and as inquisitive mind, I try to interrogate the development further.
Of a truth, politicians moving to the ruling party in our political environment is not usual, but the rate at which those of the APC extraction no longer find their platform attractive is intriguing. This much was highlighted by the DPA in its finding, attributing the development to the "impressive performance of the Osun Governor (Adeleke), the rigidity of the state APC leadership to reconciliation moves, the slow response of Mr Oyetola to discontinue his guber bid, the worsening economic climate and series disasters that had befell the party leadership in some local governments."
No doubt that Governor Adeleke has done well in the two years he has been in the saddle, effectively delivering for the people across sectors. The disposition of the Osun APC leadership to reconciliation appears to weigh heavily on the reason why the platform is being deserted by members across board. It would be recalled that crisis, which created the Omoluabi tendency in the build up to the 2022 governorship election, played some role in its eventual ouster from power in the state.
Between then and now, the crisis had grown bigger and makes APC platform a lot weaker, significantly impacting its chance of challenging a formidable platform as the Osun PDP. To make matter worse, the Osun APC under the guidance of Oyetola, suspended Aregbesola from the party and recommended further disciplinary action to its national headquarters, finally blocking the path to any possible reconciliation.
Many observers believe the attitude of the APC doesn't inspire hope of any chance in future elections, basically because the platform is not strong enough to stand a chance in any competitive election. While it is true that some PDP members, notably Dotun Babayemi, joined the APC, they have not been able to produce the numbers that could make up for the defection from the main opposition party. In fact, some of the members who followed Babayemi to the APC, like a former Iwo LGEA Secretary, Mr. Augustine, had since returned to the PDP with followers.
The balance is definitely scaled against the Osun APC and only a large scale manipulation of the electoral process could tilt the balance to it favour. Already, APC members have continued to boast in this line, touting interference of the election in the 2026 governorship by the Bola Tinubu-led federal government as its path to return to power. This will be a dangerous scheme as it may bring back the ugly memory of the 2018 election heist, which makes a larger number of Osun populace not to recognise Oyetola as their leader until his eventual ouster.
Away from this, is the observed challenge that the DPA's finding reveal lies ahead for the PDP in Osun state. According to the organisation, the Osun PDP will be seriously tested by its ability to manage the influx of membership coming its way. "While PDP membership has increased by more than 50 percent in 2024 alone, there is a noticeable rift between old and new members," the DPA noted.
Knowing politics and the recurring feature for struggle for space, it is very clear that as much as the defections to the Osun PDP should be an advantage, but it may turnaround to be a disadvantage. What happens rest on the party's leadership handling of membership, ensuring that both old and new members can cohabit together and pursue the collective goals of the party.
In all, the DPA's appraisal of political parties in Osun is a step in the right direction, as it not only provides a detailed understanding of the political environment in the state, but also help political parties to realise their standings and guide actions. This is a welcome development and more of such fact-base engagement from organisations with no political affiliations are needed to further deepen democracy, most especially in Osun state.
