In the case of the Judgement delivered in the case filled by Action Peoples Party (APP) Vs APC and OSSIEC granted as of November 30, 2022 remain unchanged. And it's effective . Today's Appeal Court judgement has nothing to do with APP judgement.

We in APP want to use this opportunity to urge the public to note that the APP judgement has no bearing on today's court decision and its validity remain unaffected.

I would also like to address the false rumour circulating about Yes or No election candidates returning to office. Please be assured that there is no such order.

Additionally, today's judgement has no impact on the upcoming local government election scheduled for February 22, 2025. This election is very important for development of our democracy. The election will proceed as planned and I want to encourage all eligible voters to get ready to perform their civic duty.

Osun Government Says Court of Appeal did not Reinstate Sacked Council Bosses, Directs Security Operatives to Arrest Trouble Makers.

The attention of the Osun State Government has been drawn to the judgement of Court of Appeal, delivered today, Monday, 10th of February,2025 wherein the originating summons filed by the PDP to challenge the validity of the election held on 15th of October 2022 was dismissed on the ground that the notice of the election had not been published by OSSIEC before the suit was filed.

The simple implication of today's judgement is that the PDP never filed any case to challenge the validity of that election.

However, there's another suit filed by the Action Peoples Party (APP) against INEC, OSSIEC, APM Babarinde Nurudeen Idowu, APGA, APC and Prince Gboyega Famodum which challenged the validity of the local government election held on the 15th of October,2022.

In its judgement in the Suit No FHC/OS/CS/103/22, the Federal High Court nullified the local govt election conducted by OSSIEC on 15th of Oct.2022 and made the following clear and positive consequential orders:

1. The election into the LG councils across Osun State held on 15th October, 2022 pursuant to notice of election issued on the 15/8/2022 is hereby declared unconstitutional, invalid, null and void for violation of the constitution and breach of sections 28,29,32,98 and 150 of Electoral Act 2022.

2. All persons or individuals occupying offices in the state local government councils by virtue of the said election are accordingly sacked from holding such offices;

3. Sections 25 and 26 of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2022 having been enacted in contravention of paragraph 12 of the part II,second schedule to the Constitution and being inconsistent with sections 29 and 32 of the Electoral Act 2022 are hereby struck down.

The judgement above, which was delivered by the Federal High Court on 30th day of November 2022 by Hon.Justice N.Ayo Emmanuel of the Osogbo Federal High Court was appealed against with the Appeal No CA/AK/226M/2024. and the Court of Appeal affirmed the judgement in the ruling delivered on 13th January, 2025.

Taking the above positions into consideration, the only valid judgement subsisting as at today is the order of the court which nullified the election conducted as enunciated above.

Therefore, we need to inform the entire citizens of Osun State, most especially, the Security Operatives and Heads of Local Government Administrations( HLA's) to take note of the fact that, there is no judgement restoring the Yes and No Local Government Chairmen back into the various Local Government Councils in Osun State.

Consequently, we urge the security operatives to arrest and prosecute anybody, no matter how highly placed, who may want to disrupt the current peace being enjoyed in our dear state.

We equally, urge all our HLAs to ensure that no intruder or political thug is allowed into the premises of any of our local governments in the state.

Therefore, anybody who makes an attempt to gain entry into any of the council secretariats should be reported to the security agencies.

Finally, we want to use this medium to inform the citizens of Osun State that barring any unforeseen circumstance, the local government election scheduled for 22nd of February 2025 will go on as planned.

OSTMS Rebrands into NURTW in Osun State...

The Osun State Transport Management System(OSTMS) has been rebranded and merged with the National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) for effective service delivery, professionalism and for improved revenue generation.

At a colourful and well attended ceremony held in Osogbo, the, the excited members of the transport workers trooped out in their large numbers to witness the epoch making event.

Tagged: "One Team, One Vision", members of the two transport groups decided to merge together as NURTW because of the need to improve the transport sector in Osun State.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Sesan Oyedele who described the day as a great one in the history of the transport sector in Osun State said the sector can only get better under Senator Ademola Adeleke.

He said the vision and mission of the State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke is to ensure that the transportation sector in Osun State is ranked among the best in Nigeria.

The Commissioner explained further that Governor Adeleke welcomed the idea of the merger between the NURTW and OSTMS because of the need to let peace reign within the sector and for the people to get value for money through professional and efficient service delivery.

Hon. Oyedele added that the merger will go a long in making things work better in the sector and the revenue generation of the government will definitely improve, stressing that Senator Ademola Adeleke is determined to continue to improve the sector.

In an address, the Nationa President of the NURTW, Comrade Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya (MC Oluomo) who described the merger as long overdue commended the efforts Governor Ademola Adeleke in stabilising and improving the transportation sector in Osun State.

He explained that Senator Ademola Adeleke has indeed shown that he is a man of the masses through the various laudable projects he is executing in the nooks and crannies of the State, adding that the Osun Transport Sector has grown so much under the present administration in the State.

While appreciating the rebranding of OSTMS into NURTW, Alhaji Akinsanya noted that it is a move that will no doubt improve the sector, stressing that he will continue to extend every necessary cooperation to the Ministry of Transportation in Osun State.

Also speaking, Chairman of the defunct OSTMS, Comrade Wakil Nurudeen Alowonle described the event as a remarkable milestone which will bring so much sanity to the transport sector in Osun State.

The programme brought together all the branches of the transport workers from across all the local government areas in the State as well as top government functionaries.

Appeal Court didn't order reinstatement of sacked LG officials, OSSIEC Chairman

The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Barrister Hashim Abioye, has dismissed as untrue a report in circulation that the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure had ordered the reinstatement of officials elected in the October 15, 2022, election in the state, urging the public to discountenance what he termed as fake news.

Barrister Hashim made the clarification in an address at the Commission's headquarters on Monday, stating that the appealate court did not make any consequential order in the decision that struck out the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as being speculated in some quarters,

He noted that the February 22, 2025, local government election scheduled by the commission will go ahead, calling on Osun people to be prepared.

"The reasoning of the Appellate Court was that the suit was filed before the Notice of election was issued by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC). It must be noted that it was during the pendency of the said suit before the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo in FHC/OS/CS/94/2022 that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) Law 2022 was enacted and the notice of election was issued," he noted.

"The Claimant in the case amended the originating summons to bring the suit in line with the developments which occurred during the pendency of the suit. The Federal High Court delivered its judgment in the suit on the 25th November, 2022, nullifying the election and sacking the purported elected officials.

"The affected political party All Progressive Congress (APC) and their purported candidates for the election appealed the judgment, and today the Court of Appeal delivered a judgment in the appeal striking out the suit for being speculative. No more to that at the Court of Appeal."

Barrister Hashim however explained that there exist a valid judgement of the court that invalidated the October 15, 2022, councils poll, calling on the public not to be dissuaded by the antics of certain elements who are out to frustrate the conduct of the upcoming election.

"However, by another judgment of the Federal High Court in suit No.: APP .v. INEC & ORS, the Federal High Court in a judgment delivered on 30th November, 2022 nullified the election and sacked the purported elected officials. The All Progressive Congress (APC), Allied People Movement (APM) and 1 other person appealed the judgment but later abandoned the appeal and same was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on the 13th January, 2025," he pointed out.

"To this effect, there is no order returning any purported elected officials of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to office as there is no Order of any Court reinstating them to office. In particular, there is no Order of any Court stopping the conduct of the election already scheduled by the Commission to hold on 22nd February, 2025. "In specific terms, the thirty (30) Local Government Areas in Osun State remain vacant till date as there is a substituting decision of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal against the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its purported candidates. "Towards this end, I urge the public to remain calm and all political parties to go about their peaceful campaigns as we countdown to the D-day, that is 22nd February, 2025. All is set for the election to hold."

Gov Adeleke is set to embark on New Infrastructural Projects across Osun..PS Works

Budgetary allocation to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure for the year 2025 will be judiciously spent to complete ongoing road projects across Osun State with the launch of new infrastructural projects in all the nooks and crannies of the state

The Permanent Secretary, Osun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Bashir Bello disclosed this when he featured on Imole Ayo, an enlightenment programme which promotes the activities of Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration on OSBC channels

Engineer Bello who spoke through the Director of Highways, Engineer Maruf Ojebode mentioned a few of the new road projects to include, dual carriage way from Ikirun to Ila Odo, Osogbo to Iwo, and the first ever dual carriage way in Iwo township

He added on-going road projects and new ones will be done simultaneously in line with Governor Ademola Adeleke's resolve,to expand infrastructure across the state.

According to the PS works and infrastructure, government will intensify efforts on the construction of inter city and intra city roads this year to ease the stress being encountered by people traveling within the state

He added that under the Imole light up Osun, solar powered lights will be installed on all local and state governments roads that have been completed pointing out that installation of polls has already begun on newly constructed Shasha market road along UNIOSUN main campus in Osogbo

While calling on those who are yet to benefit from the infrastructural development of the present administration in the state to exercise patience, Engineer Ojebode reiterated that, no area will be left out

Governor Adeleke Eulogises Judiciary, Describes Bar and Bench as “Harbinger of Hope”

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has eulogised the contributions of judiciary to the protection of personal liberties and sustenance of democracy, describing the bar and the bench as “harbinger of hope”

Speaking at the venue of hosting of three new judges at Ibadan on Saturday, Governor Adeleke noted that the judiciary is “a beacon of hope for the weak and the powerless”, submitting that “the Nigerian judiciary has contributed greatly to the growth and sustenance of democracy.

“From the bar to the bench, you are the harbinger of hope, the temple of redemption and the house of liberation for the unjustly treated. In Africa and beyond, I personally hold the Nigerian judiciary as the best in terms of its deliveries and commitment to justice and equity.

“In an era of deep challenges facing several national institutions, the bar and the bench still sustain its balancing responsibilities, providing the nation with a torch of direction, justice and equity. I therefore commend the leaders and members of the judiciary.

“The nation owes you a lot of gratitude for your consistent patriotism despite many pronounced handicaps in the operational environment”, the Governor submitted in an event organised by Musibau Adetunji, SAN & Co.

Governor Adeleke tasked judges at all levels “to continue to uphold the path of rule of law, justice, fairness and equity.

“As you have demonstrated such consistency in the past, I appeal for further entrenchment of passion for the truth. You hold the key to the survival of our democracy. The citizenry, day and night look up to you as the resort of hope and redemption”, the Governor noted.

Over 400 Killed in 6 Months under Oyebamiji's NIWA- Report

No fewer than 452 people have died from boat mishaps across various waterways in Nigeria. From July to Dec. 2024 alone, incidents were recorded in Niger, Kwara, Kogi, and Bayelsa States.

Over the years, boat mishaps have occurred with alarming regularity, each accompanied by tragic losses. According to the Marine Crafts Builders Association of Nigeria (MCBAN), Nigeria recorded over 3,000 boat accidents in just a decade.

The country’s waterways are estimated to be about 10,000 km, with over 3,000 km of navigable waterways. These waterways connect the country with five neighbouring states and provide access to 28 of the 36 states in Nigeria.

For many coastal communities surrounded by rivers, creeks, and other water bodies in Nigeria, boats are often the most viable means of transportation. Yet, these journeys are fraught with danger, as seen in the alarming frequency of boat mishaps claiming countless lives yearly.

A breakdown of the data collected between July and December 2024 revealed that most of the boat accidents resulted from inefficiency of the supervisory agency, NIWA due to lack of proactive rescue measures to ensure the safety of water transport.

The recurring issue of boat mishaps raises concern about the inefficiency of the measures taken by the National Inland Waterways Authority [NIWA]. The high fatality rate confirms inefficiency and incompetency at the topmost level of NIWA. To curb the menace of boat accidents in the country, NIWA needs to be reorganisrd with a more vibrant leadership rather a lacklustre figure like thw incumbent NIWA boss from Osun state.

Regional breakdown

When the Nigerian flag stood high for the independence celebration, tragedy knocked on the country’s door in the north-central region. A boat conveying over 300 passengers from the Mundi community in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State capsized, and about 150 of them died. 

The victims were returning from an annual religious celebration. State authorities confirmed that local divers were swift to rescue 150 out of the 300 passengers alive. 

Days later, a boat carrying over 200 passengers also drowned in the Gwajibo Mudi community in Kaima LGA of Kwara, leaving at least 169 passengers dead. Only 31 people were reportedly rescued when the boat struck a tree submerged by the rising water levels. Niger and Kwara States have been the most affected in Nigeria.

Another boat accident that occurred in Nov. 2024 resulted in the deaths of 22 commuters, mostly farmers and traders, who were sailing from Kogi State to Katcha weekly market in the Agaie area of Niger State.

In Benue State, about 20 people were killed in a boat accident that occurred in Agatu LGA when a boat conveying women and children capsized. Authorities confirmed that 76 passengers were onboard when the incident occurred.

A tragic boat accient in Lafia East LGA of Nasarawa State resulted in the deaths of four persons. The victims – a man and three women– were farmers travelling to the Ashange market from Alogami village when the overloaded boat sank with 25 passengers, four motorcycles, and bags of melon seeds.

Findings revealed that a lack of an efficient road network to connect commuters to these markets has compelled farmers and traders to adopt boats as a viable means of transportation.

The Northwest region recorded the second-highest fatalities. Data compiled by HumAngle revealed that Jigawa, Zamfara, and Sokoto States recorded 52 fatalities and 18 missing victims.

On July 7, two people died, and two others were reported missing in a boat accident in the Kwalgi village situated in the Auyo area of  Jigawa State. The state revealed that the boat was travelling to Hadin village from Kwalgi when it drowned with 20 passengers onboard after a powerful wave hit the overloaded boat.

Another boat mishap at the Nahuce area in Taura LGA in Jigawa claimed five lives, leaving 15 others unaccounted for. Authorities confirmed that the boat was conveying 20 passengers crossing over the Gamoda River when it capsized.

An overloaded boat conveying over 50 passengers capsized in the Gummi LGA of Zamfara State, leaving 41 persons dead. Only 12 people were rescued alive.

In the Dundaye community in the Wamako area of Sokoto State, four people died when a boat conveying 24 passengers capsized. Nineteen of the passengers were rescued, but one of them was declared missing.

In the South-south, Bayelsa State recorded the highest number of fatalities with 21 deaths, followed by five deaths recorded in Delta. No fewer than 20 passengers were killed in a boat accident along the Ezetu I community in the southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa. 

Reports indicated that the boat, conveying mostly women, had a faulty engine that exploded on its way to Swali in Yenagoa, which led to the deaths of passengers. A boat accident in the Okibie community of the Southern Ijaw in Bayelsa also resulted in the deaths of an individual when a 15-seater speedboat capsized.

Five people were killed in a boat mishap along Bennett Island in the Warri-South LGA of Delta State. The accident left six passengers injured, with one missing and 19 rescued. The recurrence of boat accidents prompted the Bayelsa State government to implement new safety measures, including the compulsory use of life jackets by passengers, among others, to curb the menace.

In the Northeast, however, four lives were lost after a boat mishap occurred in the Mayo Ranemo area in Taraba. The victims, over 30 of them, were in transit to Balengo town in Karin-Lamido when the engine boat capsized in the Benue River, leading to four fatalities.

As for the southwest, a boat collision in Lagos State claimed the lives of five passengers sailing from Ebutte Ero to Badagry when an ill-fated wooden boat collided with a fibre boat with 10 and 15 passengers onboard, respectively.

Ahmad Hambali, a maritime expert, said the frequent boat accidents occurring in the Nigerian waterways, especially in Northern Nigeria, are deeply concerning. 

“Although I have not come across any investigation reports to determine the root causes of these incidents, it is important to note that boats, historically, have been regarded as a safe mode of transportation.”

“It is therefore alarming to witness the increasing frequency of these tragic incidents, which continue to claim so many lives. This calls for urgent intervention by the government to address this issue,” he said.

Hambali noted that the services of industry experts must be employed to conduct thorough investigations into these accidents, identify their root causes and implement effective preventive measures, or else the menace will persist.

“By addressing these issues systematically, lives can be saved, and waterways transportation can once again fulfil its vital role in the region’s economic and social life,” he added.

In October last year, while commiserating with the victims of the tragic boat mishap on Independence Day, President Bola Tinubu directed NIWA to investigate the spate of boat mishaps in the country and devise modalities to curtail the trend.

The president also urged them to expand their surveillance of inland waters to ensure safety and prosecute boat owners who violate the ban on night sailing.   

However, HumAngle reached out to Bola Oyebamiji, the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), to understand the latest modalities on the ground aimed at safeguarding the lives of Nigerians commuting via waterways, as per President Tinubu’s directive, but the message was met with silence. Several calls made to him were unsuccessful because his number was unreachable.

Osun Job Creation: Ajibola Bashiru is Economically Ignorant

The embattled National Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) is economically ignorant and so cannot understand how local content in project implementation, youth agropreneurship and financial inclusion for local businesses create direct and indirect jobs within the state economy.

Bashiru's warped understanding of job creation is direct employment by the government. No wonder he was part of the failed government of yesterday where he among others misled their leadership to run the state aground. If Bashiru had asked from economists and those who keep statistics of state economic dynamics, if he is not becoming desperate by the mass rejection of his guber candidature, he would have understood that the best way to create jobs and solve state unemployment crisis is not direct employments but the creation of enabling environment and implementation of state policies such as access to financing for business, local content with direct labour focus and implementation of agropreneurs project to develop young entrepreneurs who in turn become employers of labour.

Governor Ademola Adeleke relies on the best of economic advice and therefore created platforms and programmes which opened employment opportunities for the mass of our people. Let us ask Bashiru if he understands the youth agropreneur programme? The programme now ongoing in Osun focuses on creating young businessmen and women in the agriculture sector. Each local government is working on hundreds of acres of land with a mechanization element and of taking programmes, thereby developing the value chain and opening employment and.business opportunities for thousands of young graduates.

Bashiru won't understand how state digital.economy introduced by Governor Adeleke is creating multiple virtual jobs. He won't know because the administration of which he was part of denied Osun the benefit of an ICT policy throughout their governance of the state.

Because during his latest time at the state government, their team specializes in exporting Osun jobs, so he won't understand how local content operates. Across the state, thousands of our people are engaged through the mass construction work currently ongoing in the state. A government that is constructing a minimum of six to seven kilometers of roads per each of the 30 local governments through direct labour directly and indirectly engages thousands of state citizens from artisans to laborers. Osun is a huge construction site with our people directly involved and indirectly included as wages of artisans and laborers serviced local food and service vendors.

A smart government takes records of such direct and indirect creation of jobs through its statistical agency. This is what the Bureau of Statistics in Abuja does and this is what is being done in Osun. Bashiru won't know because he is embattled and lacks economic understanding.

Small businesses when financially strengthened engage many workers. In fact ,in settled economies , small businesses are relied upon for job creation. Data is subsequently harvested. If you have 100,000 small businesses and they engage at least two staff , you have 200,000 jobs already created. This is what the European and United States economies operate upon. This is what the federal Bureau of Statistics in Abuja is doing and this is what Osun.state government is replicating.

In Osun state, the administration of Governor AAdeleke created 332 ward based cooperatives to serve small businesses. The same government advanced huge funds to the mainstream cooperative which are all over towns and villages. Both modes of cooperative societies service local small businesses which are thriving because of the financial lifeline from the state government. Data harvested from the field confirms expanded hiring by small businesses across the state.

Again, we won't blame Bashiru. Oyebamji or Alabi may understand the above context better if they are also not blinded by their elusive political ambitions. At least, they are not economically illiterate like the Osogbo rabble rouser.

The reality is that the Adeleke administration has a clear understanding of economic, social and political policies. Let us ask Bashiru if he understands why the Adeleke administration places workers’ welfare as the number one priority? He won't know. Let us help him. Osun economy depends on the formal sector for it to thrive. So when Bashiru, Oyebamiji and Alabi stifled the public service, they indirectly killed the informal local economy.

Governor Adeleke on assumption of office revived the state informal sector from death by nurturing the formal sector, the public service. The billions of naira pumped into workers’ welfare service, the informal economy, the market system, the transport sector, the service sector. That is partly why real estate is growing in Osun among others. By boosting the informal sector , Governor Adeleke retained existing informal workers and even expanded the capacity of local businesses to hire more hands.

When Mr Governor made an assertion on job creation, he spoke from data driven records and a sharp understanding of interplay of economic forces when it comes to job creation.

We hope Mr Bashiru has accepted to be the campaign manager of the NIWA boss who is struggling to maintain waterway safety since his appointment.

Osun Indigenes In Cote D'ivour Applaud Governor Adeleke For Infrastructural Development

Indigenes of Osun State resident in Cote D'ivour under the umbrella of Yoruba Community in Cote D’ivour have passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ademola Adeleke for the unprecedented development that he brought to Osun State in just two years of his administration.

The diaspora group led by their president, Chief Timothy Adegboyega paid a courtesy visit on the Governor in his office at Bola Ige House where they unanimously expressed their appreciation to the Governor for turning the state around in just 24 months.

According to the leader of Yoruba Community in Cote D'Ivour, "I have traveled round the state on three separate occasions that I have visited Nigeria since 2022 when you were sworn in, Your Excellency has transformed virtually every towns and cities without leaving rural areas abandoned. I must say that other members of our community have also corroborated this upon their returns to Abidjan whenever they have reason to come home".

Chief Adegboyega explained that out of about 2 million Yoruba's in the Francophone country, Osun Indigenes are the majority.

The group thereafter invited the Governor to visit Abidjan and see how much popularity he has gained in the diaspora based on his sterling performance in office as Governor in just 2 years.

While appreciating the Governor for the major road projects that have been completed and many others that are still ongoing, they appealed to Governor Adeleke to expedite action on the reconstruction of road linking Iwo to Ejigbo.

In his response, Governor Ademola Adeleke appreciated the visiting Osun Indigenes In Cote D'Ivoir for their show of appreciation for the delivery of good governance by his administration. Traditional Religion: Governor Adeleke Reiterates Commitment to Fairness and Equity Among All Religions

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has restated his commitment to pursuing initiatives that will promote cultural heritage and development in Osun State.

The Governor stated this while hosting leadership of Traditional Religious Worshipers Association (TWARSO) during a courtesy visit they paid on the Governor in his office.

Senator Adeleke who described the visit as "a remarkable milestone in the efforts to foster greater understanding, respect and collaboration between the state government and traditional institutions".

The Governor explained that the visit will serve as a reminder of the rich social cultural heritage and contributions of traditional worshipers in shaping the Yoruba identity and societal values. "It is my utmost pleasure to restate that I will continually uphold fairness and equity among all religious groups in the state to promote peaceful coexistence, tranquility and harmony" the Governor promised.

While highlighting the declaration of holiday to mark the annual Isese Day and mandatory inclusion of traditional worshipers in opening and closing prayers at all state functions as a way of giving equal rights and privileges to all religions, Governor Adeleke called on the traditional worshipers to continue to promote values of tolerance, respect and peaceful coexistence.

"Let us work together to build a brighter future for our children and generation to come". Earlier in his address, the president of the Association, Dr. Oluseyi Atanda commended Governor Adeleke for the unity and development that the state is witnessing under his administration.

Dr. Atanda noted that the traditional religious worshipers who are widely rooted in every local government in the state exemplified the uniqueness of Osun Indigenes saying they are true sons and daughters of Oduduwa with Ile Ifè that is globally accepted as source of Yoruba civilisation located in the state.

He appreciated Olodumare and the gods for supporting Senator Adeleke saying that Ifa oracle had told them that a leader that is generally underrated will spring surprises during their divinations as far back as 2018.

"In our annual divination of Ifa oracle in January 2018, Ifa Olokun told us that a man that is generally underrated will spring surprises in the state and bring positive development that is beyond everybody's expectation but we thank Ifa for not shaming us because when one sees the way at which you have developed Osun State in barely 2 years, the gods will be praised for giving you the enablement to deliver good governance to the admiration of your political opponent". Esa Oke/Ido Ayegunle: Governor Adeleke Pays Condolence Visit, Promises Panel of Inquiry

Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has paid a condolence visit to Ido Ayegunle and Esa Oke following a breakdown of law and order that led to wanton destruction of properties.

The Governor expressed sadness by the development and promised that the state government would investigate the immediate and remote causes of the crisis through a Panel of Enquiry.

He repeated that anybody found culpable of either sponsoring the mayhem or participating in the destruction of lives and attacks on the people will be brought to book.

"Let me tell you, I'm not happy at the development because there cannot be development in any community where there are violent attacks on lives and property. Be rest assured that the state government is going to investigate the matter and we will be diligent about it. I want to assure you that no matter how highly placed, anybody found to be responsible for the crisis will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” the Governor assured.

Earlier, the Governor led Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye and heads of security agencies in the state including the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Nigeria Police, NSCDC, Amotekun and Vigilante groups among others to visit Ido Ayegunle to inspect scenes of the violence.

Addressing the People of Ido Ayegunle, Governor Adeleke assured them that the state government will do everything possible to guarantee their safety and protection.

The Governor also visited Esa Oke where he inspected the king's Toyota Highlander SUV and some parts of the palace of Owamiran of Esa Oke that were burnt by alleged arsonists.

Addressing the people of Esa Oke in the Esa Oke town hall, Governor Adeleke told them that there can only be development in an atmosphere of peace, saying there is need for the people to shun any act that is capable of breaching peace and tranquility in their domain.

He reminded them that Osun State College of Technology located in the town is a mainstay of their economy, warning that parents may begin to withdraw their children amidst fear of insecurity.

He promised to look into the petition submitted by the Esa Oke town promising that the state government is committed to ensuring that peace returns to the warring communities.

Senator Adeleke also used the occasion to appreciate law enforcement agencies for their prompt response to the crisis and promised that the government will set up a panel of enquiry that will investigate their request on the Chieftaincy status of Ido Ayegunle.

In their remarks, people of Ido Ayegunle told the Governor and his entourage that people of Esa Oke have consistently attacked them and often prevented them from harvesting their farm products.

They appealed to the Governor to come to their aid and prevent the people of Esa Oke from further attacking them on their land.

In Esa Oke, the Owamiran of Esa Oke, Ọba Adeyemi Adediran commended Governor Adeleke for his prompt response saying that some hoodlums stormed the palace and set his palace and properties ablaze.

He told the Governor and his subjects that he never collected a penny from anybody as it is being insinuated in some quarters.

Also addressing the Governor, the Chairman of the Esa Oke Central Union, Otunba Bamigboye Arẹmu appealed to Governor Adeleke to help them retrieve their land from the settlers who are now claiming ownership of the land that rightfully belong to Esa Oke.

He said the people of Esa Oke are peace-loving and ready to embrace peace but insisted that Ayegunle is part and parcel of Esa Oke under Owaminran of Esa Oke.

They called on the Governor to kindly order the release of some of their youths that were allegedly arrested in connection to the crisis.

Osun Government Releases Details on Esa Oke / Ido Ayegunle Communal Crisis

The Osun state government has released gazette and official memos to justify the recent appointment of Olojudo of Ido Ayegunle, vowing to prosecute those behind arson and killings of Monday, February 3rd, 2025.

Among those documents released to the public are the official gazette of the state government dated 2005 which affirmed the Owa Obokun of Ijesha land, not Owaminran of Esa Oke as the prescribed authority over Ido Ayegunle.

Two other documents were the elevation of the Oba Olojudo of Ido Ayegunle to part two in 2014 which was conveyed to the late Olojudo by both the local government and the palace of Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland.

The statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi posited that the Adeleke administration has only followed due process as evidenced by legal and administrative documents existing before the advent of the new administration.

According to the statement, the administration followed the law and due process at its State Executive Council meeting which approved the new Olojudo.

Further details provided by the Commissioner are as follows:

“On July 16 1995, a communal clash occurred between Esa-Oke and Ido Ayegunle which led to the loss of a life as well as destruction of property when one Samuel Adekanmi Ajayi was appointed as Baale of Ido Ayegunle by the then Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.

“The State Government, later in July 1998 set up a One Man Enquiry into the Olojudo of Ido Ayegunle Chieftaincy to investigate areas/settlements traditionally associated with Esa-Oke and determine whether Ido Ayegunle is among and to determine who the Prescribed Authority is between the Owamiran of Esa-Oke and Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.

“The enquiry found that despite the fact that Esa-Oke and Ido Ayegunle are in the same Local Government and are contiguous, they have neither traditional nor customary relationship and concluded that the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland should continue to be the Prescribed Authority to the Olojudo of Ido Ayegunle Chieftaincy.

“This was affirmed by the then State Executive Council on 31st March, 2005 which approved that the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland should continue to be the Prescribed Authority over Ido Ayegunle. The then Governor signed the legal order on 28th November, 2005.

“The Baale appointed by the Owa Obokun in 1995, Samuel Adekanmi Ajayi was in 2014 recommended for elevation by the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland and subsequently, this recommendation was approved by the then State Executive Council in July 2014 and the stool of Olojudo of Ido Ayegunle was elevated to Part II Recognized Status with the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland as the Consenting Authority.

“Oba Samuel Adekanmi Ajayi joined his ancestors in October 2021 and efforts to fill the stool commenced after the completion of his burial rites. Three candidates contested the vacant stool and Prince Ajayi Oluwatimileyin Oluyemi emerged as the Olojudo-elect having unanimously secured six (6) votes from the Kingmakers of Ido Ayegunle.

“This selection was affirmed by the meeting of the State Executive Council held on Wednesday 29th January, 2025 which approved the appointment of Oba Ajayi Oluwatimileyin Oluyemi as the Olojudo of Ido Ayegunle”, the statement concluded.

Debunking the News of Esa Oke and Ido Ayegunle Being at War

We would like to commend the efforts of the security forces and commanders for calming the situation in Ido Ayegunle. It is essential to set the record straight that Ido Ayegunle is a separate township from Esa Oke, with its own suburbs and recognized by the government of Osun State and Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The history of violence between Esa Oke and Ido Ayegunle dates back to 1995 when our father, the late King Adekanmi Ajayi Aselebe, was appointed as the 16th Oba of Ido Ayegunle. This led to his elevation as the Part 2 King of the Yoruba band in 2014. However, the King of Esa Oke at that time waged war against our father, destroying properties and lives, including schools and the palace.

After our late father's passing four years ago, the Owa Omiran of Esa Oke, Oba Adeyemi Adediran, appointed Jonfolo Lawrence Adebisi Obanla of Esa Oke as the Baale of Ido Ayegunle, despite Ido Ayegunle having a Part 2 Oba since 2024. This decision is deceitful and has hindered the growth and development of Ido Ayegunle.

We sought government intervention and provided documentation to support our claims. The state government in pursuance of justice affirmed our claim, leading to the appointment of the new Olojudo. We are eternally grateful.

Unfortunately, the people of Esa Oke have continued to encroach on our land, leading to violent clashes. Recently, on January 31, 2025, a group of people from Ido Ayegunle were ambushed and beaten while trying to clean up their community hall.

We appreciate the efforts of the government in addressing this issue, and we are confident that the truth will prevail. Ido Ayegunle is a separate entity from Esa Oke, and we will continue to fight for our rights and freedom.

The new Olojudo has the full support of the people of Ido Ayegunle. This was demonstrated today when the people rose in defence of their town, tradition and their traditional ruler.

We have allowed the government to do its job. We thank God that justice has prevailed. We are not from Esa Oke, so I don't know what is going on in Esa Oke. We implore people to read, and understand that the little town of Ido Ayegunle is not part of Esa Oke.

We are not in any way related to the Esa Oke crisis. Esa Oke are the ones in Ido Ayegunle, as I speak, but we believe the government will save our town from aggressors.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of those behind the deadly attacks on Ido Ayegunle community no matter their status in the society.

Reacting to the attacks which claimed lives and properties in the town, the state governor expressed shock at the daring attacks, commending the security agencies for nabbing and detaining many of the attackers and calling for further arrests of sponsors of the evil incident.

In the statement which denied any breach of due process in the appointment of new Olojudo as an elevated part two Oba since 2014, the State Governor commended the security agencies for promptly putting down the unrest, vowing to ensure that promoters of violence face the full wrath of the law.

The Governor further directed the Commissioner of Police to spread the net of investigation to remote sponsors of the attacks even as he commiserates with victims of the attacks amongst local residents and security operatives.

“I call on residents to remain calm. The security agencies are already rounding up the perpetrators of the violence. Culprits will face justice”, the state governor warned.

Osun Government Sets Records Straight on Iragbiji Chieftaincy Declaration, Says Aragbiji Twisted Facts and Politicized Issue of Justice and Equity

The Osun state government has responded to the allegations of bias and illegality levelled against it by the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, accusing the monarch of twisting facts and playing politics with a matter of justice and equity in the Iragbiji kingship system.

Absolving Governor Adeleke of any partisan interest in the matter as reprehensibly alleged by the Aragbiji, the statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy, Hon. Dosu Babatunde Esq affirmed that the administration has all the legal rights and powers to act on State matters including revision of previous decisions if situation calls for it.

The state government posited that the decision of the State Executive Council only reversed a previous state action which apparently denied a ruling house the due rights to be included in the chieftaincy declaration, rebuking the Aragbiji for wilfully and disrespectfully violating protocols by leveling baseless allegations and insults on the state Governor.

The statement which debunked the Monarch's accusations that the Governor did not like Iragbiji sons and daughters listed several road projects ongoing in the town, the directive of the Governor for upgrade of tourists sites in the town and a recent personal presence of the Governor at Iragbiji for an SDG event.

According to the statement, the Aragbiji is guilty of wilful incitement of the public against the State Governor even as it provides the following facts and details on the decision of the State Executive Council:

“The administration of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola in 2010 set up a One Man Judicial Panel of Inquiry into the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Chieftaincy Declaration to include Lagbua Family as a Ruling House. The Panel was headed by a serving Judge of the Osun State High Court of Justice, Osogbo; Hon Justice Dr A.A Aderibigbe and its setting up was as a result of sustained agitation by the Lagbua Family of Iragbiji to the Government.

“The Panel sat between March 8 and 31, 2010 at the High Court Hall, Osogbo and all relevant stakeholders in the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Chieftaincy testified before the Panel. It submitted its report to the Government on 28th July, 2010 but the report was not considered by the State Executive Council until April 3, 2013 when in its wisdom, the then Executive Council rejected the Panel’s recommendation on the basis that the request of the Lagbua Family was in the remote past. The decision was then published in the Government Official Gazette.

“It should be noted that as at the time when the State Executive Council met in 2013, an Iragbiji son was the Chief of Staff to former Governor Aregbesola. Reports then indicated that the Council was largely influenced to ignore the merit of the panel's report by simply throwing it out.

“However, the Lagbua Family continued its agitation and appealed to the present administration for redress. His Excellency, the Executive Governor later approved the constitution of a Committee to come up with a White Paper on the Report of the One Man Judicial Panel composed of senior technocrats in Government.

“The new Committee recommended that the Government should set aside the decision of the then State Executive Council which rejected the recommendation of the One Man Judicial Panel of Inquiry and implement its recommendations on the basis that:

“The reason for the rejection of the Panel’s recommendation had ab initio been addressed and resolved by the Panel of Inquiry which took judicial evidence from all the parties. The Panel of Inquiry in one of its findings agreed that the claim of the Lagbua Family is not remote because they have consistently been agitating for their inclusion in the Chieftaincy Declaration of Aragbiji of Iragbiji, having written series of letters and petitions to the Governments of Western Region, Western State, Oyo State and Osun State.

“The Panel found that Lagbua Family was included in the draft Aragbiji Chieftaincy Declarations of 1951 and 1956 but was excluded when the Declaration was to be registered in 1958.

“Furthermore, in arriving at its recommendation for the inclusion of the Lagbua Family in the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Chieftaincy Declaration, the Panel found that as recent as 1942, one Oyekanmi, a member of the Lagbua Family was an Elemo, Head of all the Princes in Iragbiji, a position recognized in the present Chieftaincy Declaration.

“Based on these already established facts, the State Executive Council at its meeting of Wednesday 29th January, 2025 vacated the earlier decision of the State Executive Council of April 3, 2013 and approved the recommendation of the One Man Judicial Panel of Inquiry that the Lagbua Family be included in the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Chieftaincy Declaration.

“To ensure that the rights and privileges of the existing four ruling Houses are not jeopardized, the Government further directed that in the new order of rotation, Lagbua should be the fifth and last Ruling House.

“These are the facts of the matter and they are laid bare to the public to show that this present administration does not operate on sentiments but on well laid out facts and in the spirit of justice and fair play”, the statement noted.

The state government reassures the public that its decision on the Iragbiji Chieftaincy Declaration is not targeted at anybody and is not meant to disrupt public peace. The intention as can be seen from above is to enforce equity and fairness, the Commissioner assured.

It is utterly absurd to witness someone who ought to embody the highest standards of ethics and integrity, disparaging a leader. We recently viewed the press conference featuring the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Olabomi, in which he purportedly issued a warning to our esteemed governor while subtly inciting discord among the populace.

Given the stature and age of the Aragbiji, one would expect him to exercise restraint and decorum, upholding the dignity of the throne he occupies. Kabiesi Olabomi must recognize that to claim he is "warning" a state governor is, at the very least, a profound affront.

Should Baba Olabomi find himself in disagreement with the recent white paper or the decisions of the state executive council, wisdom should dictate that he refrained from resorting to media theatrics that reveal his lack of civility.

When a government establishes a judicial panel to address matters of chieftaincy declarations and subsequent administrations grapple with the recommendations, what transgression has occurred in the latest review?

The decision fosters justice for an Iragbiji ruling house, Logua family, that has long been marginalized, ensuring their rightful place is restored. What, then, troubles Oba Olabomi? Are the members of the Lagua ruling house not his subjects as well?

It is both laughable and lamentable that Oba Olabomi fails to distinguish between the actions of the executive cabinet and the governor’s decisions. Let it be made clear: Iragbiji is not the sole domain of Oba Rasheed Olabomi, and his position does not bestow upon him superior rights over any other citizen.

Osun Assembly urges the distinguished elders of our community to counsel Oba Olabomi to act with prudence. His attempts to vilify and incite the public against the governor in response to the executive council's decision may ultimately backfire, bringing him into disrepute.

He is not above the law and must remember that he remains a subject of the governor. Should he allow his pride to cloud his judgment, he shall face the consequence.

Osun State House of Assembly also commend the council's decision, which stands as a testament to this government's commitment to justice and its refusal to allow any individual or group to be oppressed.
