A Commutter and his family abducted along Benin/Niger Republic border in April last year has finally spoken out, Asabi Abiodun Olusola, has narrated how he and his family escaped from their abductors after spending more than a month in the captivity of the terrorists.
Asabi while speaking with newsmen on the phone on Saturday said he left Nigeria to Benin Republic as a result of persecution and threat to his life because of Chieftaincy Title that he refused to honour. He said he went to Benin to seek asylum but he later realized that the person that provided him shelter was trying to set him up for his enemies to capture him. Asabi added that when he noticed this, he has no choice than to leave Benin republic to Niger Republic for refugee. However, on his way to Niger Republic, some gunmen had abducted him and his family in a vehicle going to Niger Republic from Benin.
He said the driver of the vehicle and some passengers had fled into the bush upon realizing that those that stopped them were Bokoharam terrorists.
He further explained that their abductors later led him and his family members into their camp after walking for about two hours in the bush.
He further disclosed that so many victims were also brought to the camp to join them. We managed to escape after a joint force of Niger Republic troops raided their hideout. In the ensuing gunfire, many terrorists were killed, enabling our narrow escape to a nearby village close to Madama city in Niger Republic. This was after spending more a month because he and his family were abducted in April 2022 but escaped in May 2022.
On why he has refused to brief press on the matter for over a year, Asabi said he needs to live a low life as a result of people running after his life.
