Why we closed Oluode market - Mayowa Adejoorin discloses

As part of the efforts of the state government in making sure Osun is free from any disease, the ministry of environment and sanitation sealed off Oluode market in Osogbo, the state capital.

This, according to the commissioner for environment and sanitation, Mayowa Adejoorin, happened for not complying with sanitation law, by not making the environment neat.

The market was sealed off for twenty four hours before it was unsealed after a fine had been paid by the marketers, as they promised to abide with sanitation law.

Speaking, the General Manager, Osun Waste Management Agency, Mr F.O Oyewole said the agency is working assiduously in making sure Osun remains a clean state, stating that whoever caught dumping refuse indiscriminately shall be dealt with according to the law.

"As you can see that we just unsealed Oluode market after the leadership of the market has promised to continue to abide by the sanitation law, by making sure the environment of the market remains clean at all time.

"I told them that the ministry will not hesitate to seal the market again if they fail to comply with us.

In his reaction, the commissioner for environment and sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin noted that those who are still dumping refuse indiscriminately will soon be arrested and punished accordingly.

"The closure of Oluode market is just a message to other market users who doesn't clean their environment that very soon, we will get them and their market will be sealed off.

"The government is trying in its effort by making sure we don't register any disease in our dear state. Just recently, virtually all the states in Nigeria experience cholera disease, it it was only Osun who doesn't register any case. This was made possible due to the proactiveness of the state government. People need to support the government in this regard.

"Dumping of refuse on water ways are inimical to our healthy living as this is capable of causing flood. People should desist from this act.", the commissioner noted.
